The Town of Innisfil has a Sidewalk Improvement Program to rehabilitate various sidewalks to extend their useful life. Selected sections of sidewalk are chosen based on the results of a Sidewalk Needs Study, which is completed every 5 years to evaluate sidewalk conditions across town.
Sidewalk construction: repair versus replace
It's less costly to repair sidewalks than to replace those that have deteriorated. Rehabilitating existing sidewalks helps avoid replacement costs in the future. When older sidewalks are reconstructed, they are made compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). This includes adding textured ground surface indicators that provide critical navigational and hazard cues for individuals who are blind or have low vision.
Sidewalk rehabilitation schedule
The trail on the north side of Innisfil Beach Road from Fire Station 1 into Innisfil Beach Park will be reconstructed in the spring of 2026.

The following sections of sidewalk were designed in 2023 and will be constructed in 2024:
North side of Lynn Street from Yonge Street westerly for 140 m
Various locations on Yonge Street through Stroud
North Gate (tentative)
Work also included the replacement of the asphalt trail from Yonge Street to Richardson Street.
The following sections of sidewalk were constructed in 2022:
Candaras Street – entire length
Leslie Drive (south) from Douglas Avenue to Richard Street
Benson Street from Jans Boulevard to 1285 Benson Street
Coleman Court from Ferguson Street to 1255 Coleman Court
Annecca Street – entire length
Ashwood Avenue - entire length
Westmount Avenue from Ashwood Avenue to 1105 Westmount Avenue
The following sections of sidewalk were constructed in 2021:
King Street south from Queen Street to Victoria Street west (west side of the road)
King Street south from Church Street to Hamilton Street (east side of the road)
Church Street from King Street to William Drive (south side of the road)
Church Street from Elizabeth Street to 114 m to the east (north side of the road)
Cook Avenue from Victoria Street east to Heritage Road (west side of the road)
What to expect
Sections of sidewalk that are being replaced or repaired will be closed to the public for the duration of the planned construction. Signage will be placed on the closed sections of the sidewalk and traffic disruptions may occur.
Driveway access will be maintained throughout the construction, except for temporary disturbances when sidewalk is placed in front of residences. We will provide at least 48 hours of notice to affected residents before work begins.
