The Town of Innisfil's Transportation Master Plan (TMP) creates a long-term transportation vision for the town. The plan outlines infrastructure improvements and policies to support the future mobility needs of our community in all modes, from walking and cycling to driving and transit and everything in between.
We recently updated the TMP in 2022 to plan for Innisfil's growth and transportation needs to 2051.
The 2022 revision to the Transportation Master Plan (TMP) includes a variety of projects to plan for growth. The top priorities are:
Intersection and grade separation improvements at Innisfil Beach Road and 20th Sideroad, in the area of the Metrolinx rail line
Improvements to the 6th Line, including widening, bridge reconstruction, future interchange construction at Highway 400 and 6th Line, and transfer of portions from the Town to the County of Simcoe
The Highway 89 east-west link bypassing Cookstown
Other project highlights are:
A new cycling route around Lake Simcoe
Other intersection improvements at several locations on the 20th Sideroad
Collector and arterial road widenings
Consideration of traffic calming in neighbourhoods and arterial road speed control measures in dense urban settings
The project team looked into various transportation solutions including:
Reducing congestion and enhancing road network connectivity
Providing scalable and reliable transit options
Promoting active and healthy lifestyles
Ensuring you receive your shipments in a timely manner
Exploring innovative solutions and planning for autonomous and connected vehicles
Planning for growth while respecting the Town's rural roots

Appendix E addresses sustainability, growth policies and economic objectives.
Sustainable transportation planning refers to the development of a transportation network that reduces resource use, including energy, while still meeting the transportation needs of the community.
An equitable transportation system ensures that the distribution of infrastructure and programs allows for different populations to have reasonably equal transportation benefits and impacts.
Appendix G addresses the evolution to transit due to technology and innovation.
The active transportation review takes a look at any form of self-propelled mode of transportation that uses human energy such as walking, cycling, skating, jogging, and rolling.
The complete streets policy aims to integrate the various functions of streets through a design process to ensure it can be safely shared by all road users.
Appendix K identifies transit needs and opportunities.
We recognize the importance of sidewalks and the improvements needed to increase walkability. Our sidewalk priorities address existing sidewalk conditions, accessibility requirements, surrounding land use, road characteristics, public support and cost of construction.
The pedestrian crossing policy addresses the installation of new pedestrian crossings with the town to meet demands, improve safety, and manage costs.
Roundabouts are a circular intersection where two or more roads meet. Review our roundabout implementation guidelines for proposed roundabouts in Innisfil and more information.
