Community groups interested in hosting a candidate information session are encouraged to contact Clerks Services at elections@innisfil.ca to discuss opportunities.
How to file a nomination
Interested in running? Pick up a Candidate Package at Innisfil Town Hall during regular office hours, or print off and fill out the required forms.
Nominations for all positions can be filed during regular office hours starting on May 1, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. until Nomination Day on August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
When you're ready to file your nomination, please schedule an appointment with Clerk Services to ensure we're available to help you.
Nomination appointment requirements
Clerks staff will confirm your appointment once it's booked. The appointment is expected to take around 30 to 45 minutes.
Please bring the following to your appointment:
- Government-issued photo ID showing your name and qualifying address
- Nomination Paper – Form 1: Must be signed in front of the Clerk
- Endorsement of Nomination – Form 2: Original signatures are required for Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and Councillor candidates only. It is recommended that you collect more than 25 signatures.
- Election Sign Deposit Form: Your sign deposit is not required at your nomination appointment; however, it must be paid before any election signs are posted on September 1, 2026.
- Declaration of Proper Use of Voters’ List
- Candidate’s Consent to Release Personal Information
- Declaration of Qualification
- Candidate Name on Ballot
- Nomination filing fee: $200 for mayoral candidates; $100 for all other candidates. Payment may be made by cash, debit, or certified cheque.
What's in the Candidate Package?
The Candidate Package includes mandatory forms and prescribed notices:
- Nomination Paper Form
- Endorsement of Nomination Form
- Election Sign Deposit Form
- Preliminary Estimate of Maximum Campaign Expenses
- Appointment of Scrutineer by Candidate Form (if required)
- Declaration of Proper Use of Voters' List
- Candidate’s Consent to Release Personal Information
- Declaration of Qualifications
- Financial Statement Form 4
To file your nomination, you must complete and sign all forms within the Candidate Package and submit them directly to Election staff at Innisfil Town Hall. Please note that an original signature is required on all forms.
School board trustees
School Board Trustee elections are also held on October 26, 2026. Nominations for school board trustee are accepted by the Clerk of the municipality with the most electors representing the school board district.
For the 2026 Election, the municipalities responsible for each school board trustee election are:
- Simcoe County District School Board (English Public) - Town of Innisfil
- Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (English Separate) - Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury
- Counseil Scolaire Viamonde (French Public) - City of Barrie
- Counseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir (French Separate) - City of Barrie
