Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil is offering a series of Candidate Information Sessions this spring to support individuals looking to run in the upcoming municipal and school board election.
These sessions will provide prospective candidates with essential information on eligibility requirements, the nomination process, campaign finances, and the roles and responsibilities of elected officials. Interested individuals are encouraged to attend one or more sessions, each offering a unique opportunity to learn.
Session 1 with the Town’s Clerk Services
- Date: April 16, 2026
- Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
- Location: Sandycove Acres – The Wheel (2 Weeping Willow Drive)
This in-person session will provide an overview of the candidate nomination process, key timelines, and what it means to serve on municipal council. No registration is required.
Session 2 with the MMAH
- Date: May 4, 2026
- Time: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- Location: Innisfil Town Hall (2101 Innisfil Beach Road) or Online via Zoom
Hosted in partnership with other regional municipalities, this session is led by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) and will cover legislative requirements for candidates and third-party advertisers. Registration is required.
Session 3 with Clerks on Call
- Date: May 21, 2026
- Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Location: Innisfil Town Hall (2101 Innisfil Beach Road) or Online via Zoom
This practical workshop titled “Thinking of Running for Council…Now What?” is designed to help prospective candidates make informed decisions before deciding to run for municipal office and covers key topics such as the roles and responsibilities of Council members and staff, what to consider before entering the race, and the realities of public life. Presenters from Clerks on Call, who have over 30 years of municipal government experience, will join virtually, and participants can attend in person or via Zoom. Town staff will be on-site to support attendees, facilitate discussion, and answer questions about the election process.
Community groups interested in hosting a candidate information session are encouraged to contact Clerks Services at elections@innisfil.ca to discuss opportunities.
To further support civic engagement, the Town has launched an Election Ambassador initiative. Ambassadors will help share accurate election information, promote key dates, and encourage voter participation within the community. This volunteer opportunity is ideal for residents passionate about local democracy and interested in supporting a transparent and accessible election process. The 2026 Municipal and School Board Election will take place on October 26, 2026.
