Innisfil, ON – Work is actively underway to reopen the Stroud Innisfil Community Centre, with the original restoration work progressing on schedule and within the approved budget.

As areas of the building have been opened up for more detailed investigation, several unexpected conditions have been identified that require additional work before the facility can safely reopen. These include HVAC modifications to bring the building into code compliance, mould remediation and related insulation replacement in the arena-side ceiling, and further engineering assessment of pitting observed on structural beams.

The Town regularly inspects and maintains its facilities. However, some conditions within a building can only be identified once walls, ceilings and other areas are opened up as part of more detailed investigation or repair work. Staff are addressing these findings as they arise and continuing to move the restoration project forward.

The additional work will extend the arena closure beyond the previously targeted November 2026 reopening date. Staff are continuing to assess the scope, cost and timeline and will provide a further update at a Council Meeting this September.

Arena ice users will continue to be accommodated at the Town’s other two arenas through January 18, 2027, while staff work with user groups to adjust schedules and explore available options. The current target reopening date for the Stroud Banquet Hall remains February 15, 2027. Staff are working directly with affected user groups to help them plan around the extended closure.

“We know how important Stroud Arena is to our community, and we understand how eager people are to see it reopen,” says Nicole Bowman, Director of Operations. “I want residents to know that a tremendous amount of work is happening behind the scenes. As additional conditions are uncovered, we are addressing them so the facility can safely reopen as soon as possible.”

The Town will continue to provide updates as the work progresses and more information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to follow the Town of Innisfil on social media or visit innisfil.ca/news to keep informed.
