Accountability and Conduct

Members of Council, Council committees, and local boards are committed to carrying out their duties in a respectful and ethical manner. The Code of Conduct sets out the standards for appropriate conduct.

Complaints

If you think a Member of Council has broken the Code of Conduct and would like to submit a complaint, we recommend following the informal complaint procedure first. Disclosures of Pecuniary Interest

All members of Council, local boards and committees have an obligation to act honestly and responsibly when making decisions or giving advice on Council, board or committee matters. This obligation includes the disclosure of pecuniary interest.

A pecuniary interest exists when a member has a direct or indirect conflict related to a matter under consideration. A full explanation of direct and indirect pecuniary interests can be found in the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act.

It is each member’s responsibility to determine whether they have a pecuniary interest. Members must verbally disclosure a pecuniary interest during the meeting and submit a written disclosure to the Clerk immediately after the meeting.

The Town maintains a public registry of submitted disclosures of pecuniary interest.
