Innisfil, ON – The Town of Innisfil is hosting its annual Remembrance Day ceremony on November 11, starting at 10:45 a.m. Residents are invited to gather outside the Town Hall cenotaph (2101 Innisfil Beach Road) to honour and remember the sacrifices of Canadian veterans and active service members.

The service will include remarks, a moment of silence, wreath laying, and a closing prayer, providing an opportunity to reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who have helped protect Canada's freedoms.

Additional opportunities to commemorate Remembrance Day are available leading up to November 11. Residents can attend ceremonies hosted by community partners at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 547, Cookstown Cenotaph, and The Wheel (Sandycove Acres). More information is available at innisfil.ca/events.

Meanwhile, the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library is inviting patrons to write a Poppy of Remembrance at any branch. These poppies will form in-branch installations featuring messages of acknowledgement and thanks, or the names of loved ones who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces.

The Cookstown Branch will also welcome special guest Sgt. (Ret'd) Robert “Bob” George, MStJ, CD, a twenty-year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces with three overseas tours, on November 7 at 2 p.m. George will share his experiences as a Peacekeeper and his perspective on the importance of remembrance. The event is free and open to all ages, with registration encouraged at innisfilidealab.ca/events.

Residents can learn more about Canada’s military history and ways to commemorate it on the Veterans Affairs Canada website.
