Load Restrictions
Each year in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act under Section 122, Sub Section 7 which covers reduced load permits and as per bylaw 017-01. The Town roads have been permanently signed to meet the H.T.A. which is 5 tonnes per axle and reflect the time period from March 1st to May 1st.
We typically cease on May 1st unless the roads require a longer time to set up and if they do, it is our normal practice to extend it on those roads requiring further time to set up which includes notifying MTO enforcement branch as well of the specifics..
As you will note the only exceptions are as quoted in the H.T.A.
“(4) Exceptions – Subsections (1) and (3) do not apply to,
(a) vehicles operated by or on behalf of a municipality of other authority having jurisdiction and control of a highway, where the vehicles are engaged in highway maintenance, including the carriage and application of abrasives or.” HTA-174
