Legal Services

The Legal Services Department provides a broad range of legal services to the Town, its elected Council, Town Committees, Town Departments and related boards and agencies. The department also ensures the Town operations adhere to legislative and common law requirements and provides legal defence to the Town.

The Legal Services Department also acts in an advisory capacity with respect to various matters within the Town, while providing a broad array of services in an economical and efficient manner.

These services include legal opinions, advice, preparing and processing of contracts and agreements such as subdivision agreements, site plan agreements and other development agreements.

Legal Services is responsible for acting for the Town in all property transactions including but not limited to purchases, sales, easements, encroachments, Crown Shore Reservations, obtaining all road widenings, daylighting triangles and permanently closing of roads. Legal Services also coordinates the maintenance of the inventory of Town owned and leased properties.

Legal Services receives and processes all insurance claims for property damage. For more information on submitting a claim please contact the Legal Services Coordinator.
