Emergency Planning
Be Prepared; Plan for Emergencies; Protect what is Important
In your day-to-day living, disasters may seem a distant possibility. Yet natural disasters such as floods or tornadoes... technological or environmental accidents such as chemical spills... service disruptions such as lengthy power failures can strike any community, including yours, at any time. If you're unprepared for a disaster, it can shatter your life. Expect the unexpected and plan for it. Knowing what to do when a disaster strikes will help you better control the situation and be in a better position to recover more quickly.
It is everyone's role to be prepared for an emergency. The more work done now to prepare for an emergency the better prepared the Town of Innisfil will be to respond to any type of disaster. This website will provide you with information regarding the Town of Innisfil Emergency Management Program including information on the Emergency Plan and personal preparedness initiatives to assist you prior, during, and after an emergency. It will also provide links to invaluable resources which will help you prepare for any emergency.
Working with the Town's Community Emergency Management Coordinator, the Emergency Management Program Committee oversees the Emergency Response Plan. In conjunction with Emergency Management Ontario, the Emergency Management Program Committee works to ensure that the Town's Emergency Response Plan meets the provincial standards for prevention, preparation, response and recovery from a major emergency in the municipality.
No community is equipped to handle all the demands of a catastrophe. Help your community by preparing yourself. Make sure everyone in your family knows what to do before, during and after an emergency. Set up a family meeting this week to discuss how you can best prepare for an emergency. Have your own plan.
“Prepare Today for a Safer Tomorrow”
It is also suggested that you take some time to consider your home and what you can do to assist emergency personnel should they need to attend. Are walkways clear? Is there enough access should a stretcher be required? Something as simple as ensuring that your 911 number is visible from the road will assist emergency services in getting to you quickly. Although there is a Town by-law in place which requires house numbering be at least 7.62 cm (3.5 inches) in size and visible from the road, the numbering of many residences is still hidden from view. Consider purchasing a green 911 sign for the end of your driveway to help ensure you get the assistance you need when you need it. For further information on purchasing a 911 sign please call Customer Service at 705-436-3710.
