Do you have an open Building Permit?
What happens if I have a building permit that I have not received the final inspection, or due to constraints beyond my control my project has been dormant for a year or more?
As a property owner, please ensure that all building inspections for permits on your property are carried out in a timely manner.
If you have an open permit without inspections in the past 12 months, you may only need to request a permit extension in writing.
If your project is older than 2010 you may want to call us at the Town to find out the current status of the permit, 705-436-3710.
A final inspection is always required, whether is for a minor permit such as a deck or swimming pool, or a major permit to construct a dwelling.
If you had a contractor performing the work and the work is complete, this does not mean a final inspection was done. Therefore the permit could be open and outstanding.
If your home was built by a builder and you live in a subdivision often final approval of the grading of the property can take 1-2 years after the house is built, this does not mean a final inspection was done. Therefore the permit could be open and outstanding.
An outstanding permit could mean difficulties at the time of selling your property, obtaining a mortgage, or a severance.
Please contact the Building Services at the Town of Innisfil to confirm the status of all permits on your property.
