Operational Services |
Operational Services presently has jurisdiction over various major divisions such as engineering, construction
and maintenance of all Town roads, shoulders of roads, ditches, water systems, sewage treatment,
sidewalks, bridges, traffic control matters, garbage collection and disposal, recycling, street
cleaning, ice and snow removal, roadside weed control, street lighting, railway crossings, municipal drains. |
Operational Services also operates and maintains all of the nine (9) Municipal water systems which
presently serve over 6,000 customers. These systems have the ability to handle substantial growth.
Water quality is monitored daily with bacteriological tests conducted weekly and under the current
Ontario Drinking Water Regulation 459-00 quarterly chemical analysis are performed to ensure the
finished product meets those standards set by the Ministry of the Environment and Ontario Health.
We also operate and maintain two (2) sewage treatment plants in accordance with Ministry of Environment
and Energy guidelines and service a present customer base of 6,800 people with the capacity for substantial
growth. |
Operational Services also evaluates street lighting, make recommendations to Council on replacement
upgrading needs. Operational Services also handles the installation of extensions to old and new street
light systems as well as the upgrading of existing systems. They receive complaints and arrange for
repairs to existing lighting systems, all in accordance with a maintenance contract with a private
contractor, who is responsible for all installations and repairs under the direction of Operational
Services staff. |
Operational Services also provides a 24-hour emergency service via the South Simcoe Police Services
for MAJOR emergencies, at 911. |
As of March, 2001, Operational Services also includes the daily operation and maintenance of
the Town Parks system (excluding booking, programs, etc.) |
