Innisfil Heritage Committee

The Ontario Heritage Act states that:
(1) The Council of a municipality may by by-law establish a municipal Heritage Committee to advise and assist the Council on matters relating to this Part, matters relating to Part V and such other heritage matters as the Council may specify by by-law. 2002, c. 18, Sched. F, s. 2 (7).
(2) The Committee shall be composed of not fewer than five members appointed by the Council. 2002, c. 18, Sched. F, s. 2 (7).
The Corporation of the Town of Innisfil adopted By-law 013-04 on February 18, 2004 by Council Resolution No. CR-062.04 to appoint members to the Municipal Heritage Committee.
PURPOSE
The Innisfil Heritage Committee is an Advisory Committee to Council constituted to make recommendations on matters relating to the Ontario Heritage Act, including the preservation, conservation and restoration of buildings in the Town of Innisfil that are historically, culturally or architecturally significant to the community.
MANDATE
The mandate of the Innisfil Heritage Committee is to:
  • Create an awareness of local heritage; provide advice to help guide changes, on architectural, historical or heritage sites;
  • Inventory and research heritage buildings/sites;
  • Recommend the designation of individual properties, and districts;
  • Provide Council with advice on alterations to designated properties;
  • Be a community liaison for heritage matters;
  • Inform and educate;
  • Heritage related municipal planning;
  • Assess the demolition/removal of designated property; and,
  • Assess other issues which may arise, as they pertain to the Ontario Heritage Act.
